A Final Letter to Kimber: Saying Goodbye to My Best Friend and Soul Dog

🕊️ A Final Letter For Kimber — My Baby Girl

I don’t even know how to start this, because how do you begin to write about the part of your soul that just left your body?

Kimber, you’ve been by my side every chance you got. Through every heartbreak, every storm, every silent moment, and every loud one too. You were more than a dog. You were my best friend, my baby girl, my emotional support, and honestly, the one being in this world who never asked for more than love — and yet gave it back tenfold.

You didn’t want toys. You didn’t care about fancy things. All you ever truly wanted was to feel safe, close, and loved. And you were. Every single day.

The Day You Were Freed

My sweet girl,

Today, I did the hardest thing I have ever had to do — I let you go.

You woke up this morning and couldn’t move your back legs. You didn’t cry out, you didn’t panic. You just looked at me with that quiet strength you’ve always had — as if to say, “I’m still here. I still love you.”

But I knew.

I knew that something had changed. Something permanent. Something we couldn’t come back from this time.

You were my shadow. My comfort. My anchor.
My best friend.
My emotional support.
My baby girl.

You never needed much — just to be close. To feel loved. And you gave love back in ways that words could never hold. Every nuzzle. Every tiny tail wag. Every time you followed me from room to room — even when it hurt — you were saying, “Where you are, I want to be.”

And today… I had to do something I never wanted to do:
Be without you.

The vet said you had likely lost full connection to your back half. You didn’t even know your legs were there anymore. You hadn’t peed. You had no control. And they said we could try things — but nothing would guarantee your comfort or your recovery.

You would have been trapped in your body.
Scared. Soiled. Needing me to express your bladder just to live.
And you deserved so much more than that.

So I held you.

I looked into your eyes.
I told you how much I love you.
And as they gave you the medicine that set you free,
I let my heart break so yours wouldn’t have to.

You left this world in peace, Kimber.
Soft. Safe. Loved beyond measure.
You didn’t die in fear. You died with me right by your side,
the same place you lived your entire beautiful life.

🐾 I Will Carry You With Me

Everywhere I go.
In the quiet. In the ache. In the softness of a blanket.
In the places you used to lie.
In the warmth of the sun that you loved to feel on your fur.
In the stillness where your heartbeat once met mine.

You will always be my baby girl.
My heart.
My Kimber.

Thank you for choosing me.
Thank you for loving me when I didn’t even know I needed it.
Thank you for being the gentle soul I didn’t know I was praying for.

Now run again.
Feel the wind.
Wag that little tail.
And wait for me.

Because when it’s my time…
I know all those who I’ll be looking for first.

I love you, forever and always.
